Plate boundaries
Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions affect people over the world. They are caused by the movement of tectonic plates. Tectonic hazards tin can destroy buildings, base and cause deaths.
Different types of collection plate boundaries
The period at which two plates meet is named a plate limit or margin.
Convergent plate boundaries
A convergent plate boundary alias a soul-destroying plate bound , usually involves an oceanic plate and a continental plate . The plates move towards unrivalled another and this movement can cause earthquakes and volcanoes.
As the plates collide, the oceanic plate is unscheduled beneath the continental plate. This is known as subduction and results in the formation of an ocean trench . This happens because the water plate is denser (heavier) than the landmass plate.
When the plate sinks into the mantle it melts to form magma. The insistence of the magma builds heavenward beneath the Ground's surface. The magma escapes through with weaknesses in the rock and rises up through a composite plant volcano , also known as a stratovolcano . The mountain eruptions are often violent, with lots of steam, gas and ash tree.
If cardinal geographical area plates collide, neither can sink and so the land buckles upwards to take shape fold mountains . This is called a collision boundary . Earthquakes rear occur at collision boundaries.
Branching photographic plate boundaries
At a branching plate boundary - a.k.a. a constructive scale boundary, the plates go off separate from one another. When this happens the magma from the mantle rises up to make (or conception) new crust. The effort of the plates over the curtain can cause earthquakes. Rising magma stern also create shield volcanoes .
Landforms at a divergent plate boundary let in sea ridges , eg the Mid-Atlantic ridge (where the Eurasian photographic plate and the North Atlantic shell are moving apart from each other under the Atlantic), rift valleys eg the Geographic region Rift Valley and shield volcanoes .
Conservative plate boundaries
At a conservative plate boundary , the plates slide past each other in diametric directions, or in the same direction but at antithetical speeds. Eastern Samoa the plates try to move, friction occurs and plates become stuck. Pressure builds up because the plates are still trying to move. When the pressure is released, it sends out huge amounts of energy causing an earthquake. The earthquakes at a conservative dental plate bound can beryllium very destructive as they occur close to the Earth's come out. There are no volcanoes at a conservative collection plate bounds.
